You can open an account at our branch or any of our agencies * or by post. You will need at least

£1 to open a Variable rate cash ISA, Wishmakers account or any of our Affinity accounts
£50 to open an Easy access account (£5 if under 18 years old)
£100 to open a Fixed rate bond or Fixed rate mini cash ISA (if available)
£500 to open a 90 day notice account or a Direct tracker rollover bond
£25 to open a Regular savings account/Direct regular savings account

* Please note that Direct accounts and any available Direct bonds can only be opened and operated by post through our Head Office.

You can hold an account as an individual, or with up to three other people (except ISA's and our children's account which can only be held in one name). If you have an account in joint names, you can decide whether withdrawals can be made with any or all signatures.

The person named first on a joint account is entitled to vote at our general meetings and any statements and other correspondence will be addressed to them.

Children can also hold and operate an account in their own name as long as they are old enough to sign.

To apply in person
Simply complete an application form and take it, together with your initial deposit, to the Kent Reliance branch or any designated agent. The cheque should be made payable in your name* with your address written on the reverse. You can download an application form from this website, pick one up at our branch or any agent, or call us on 08451 22 00 22* and we'll send you one right away.

* For our children's account the cheque should be made payable in the child's name

The person named first on a joint account is entitled to vote at our General Meetings, and any statements and other correspondence will be addressed to them.

You can open an account in the name of your child or grandchild and operate it on their behalf until they are old enough to do so themselves.

You will need to provide a certified copy or original of the child's birth certificate.

Certified copies should be signed, dated, marked 'original seen' and bear the name, address and occupation of the certifier. Copies can be certified by a UK lawyer, banker, accountant, teacher, doctor, minister of religion, postmaster/sub-postmaster, authorised financial intermediary or similar professional.

Alternatively you can post your application form and deposit (cheques not cash) to our Head Office at:

14 days to change your mind

Once you've opened a Kent Reliance savings or investment account, you have a 14-day 'cooling-off period'. If you decide within that time that you're not happy with your choice of account, we'll help you move your money without notice and without charge to a different kind of account, or return it, along with any interest it has earned. Our only condition is that if you've paid any cheques into your account, we can't return that money until the cheque(s) have cleared - normally after six clear working days.

To exercise your right to cancel, simply notify us in writing at Kent Reliance Building Society, Reliance House, Sun Pier, Chatham, Kent ME4 4ET or call
08451 22 00 22**.

Membership

If you are an individual, when you invest in a share account with Kent Reliance Building Society you become a member of the Society. The Society's rules contain the terms which govern the relationship between the Society and you as a member of the Society and your rights and obligations as a member. A copy of the Rules is available at our branch or any of our agents office or from our Head Office. An investor with a deposit account is not a member of the Society.

To open a children's account

Children up to the age of seven will need a parent/guardian/representative to open and operate the account on their behalf until they reach their seventh birthday.

They can only hold an account as an individual, although there can be up to two parents/guardians/representatives operating the account.

*Calls to 08451 numbers from BT landlines will be charged at 5p per minute, the price of calls from other telephone companies may vary. For customer service and training purposes calls to Kent Reliance may be monitored and/or recorded.
